Newfoundland Pony Search

At the time of the search there were estimated to be fewer than two hundred Newfoundland ponies left on the Island; so the search was long and it was quickly learned that the selection was limited. The initial thoughts were to seek a larger breeding pair (greater than 14hh), but that goal was found to be unattainable and we settled for what we could find; although all in all we did very well.

Twister by Twist

Started out as a Dressage and Event prospect but was sold because of a silly streak that the owner was not willing to cope with or correct. Was retrained as a Hunter and did reasonably well in that role. Click the object below to see him perform at his very first hunter show.

Swaps Silver Slippers

The one time first place winner in the line class for yearlings at the Royal Winter Fair. Growing so bold that he learned to intimidate his owners and was sold to a horse dealer who attempted to turn him into a show jumper because he always tended to jump big.

Eventually the training was abandoned because of soundness issues. He developed a baby bow tendon as a result of the intense training. Eventually he was cut and sold as a Hunter prospect but retained the attitude problem: not really dangerous but exhibiting an attitude that could be described as lying somewhere between being testing and obnoxious.

Big Bad Swaps, a cut to-late, gelding 17 hh TB, was always a handful to ride; here he does his stuff at a Hunter Show.

Hunter Training - Twister

Twister a 16,2 hh, TB Cold Blood cross Gelding, commonly referred to simply. as "The Grey", was a rejected dressage prospect before being acquired. He has a silly streak which would cause him to shy at almost anything. This annoying trait could surface at the most inconvenient times. The shying diminished With training but never completely disappeared.

Newfoundland Pony

The Newfoundland Pony Filly; Little Catalina hits the ground running. Only two days after her birth this adorable little creature was feeling frisky and full of life.

she has really filled out since then, she now and has a girth the same size as
starr's (she isn't fat - just well built). Starr is 13 hands 2 and a bit - this
data kind of shocked me as I always thought he was 12 and something hands.
